For years I have seen the name Lucca as it pops up on lists of top cities in Italy. Yet despite its famed title, this quaint city, birthplace of one of the worlds most renowned opera composers Giacomo Puccini, does not offer all that much in terms of tourist attractions. Despite this, I was lured into visiting this beautiful Tuscan city, and I was definitely not disappointed but what it had to offer.

Lucca is simply about being and enjoying. The perfect getaway from the big Italian cities, Lucca is the place to forgo the travel itineraries and simply live in the moment, taking in the beauty that surrounds you. It is the perfect place to sit around and enjoy great cuisine and, perhaps, a gelato while taking in the views. Pay a small entrance fee to climb the Guingi Towers and enjoy great views of the entire city!

B&B Cento Passi dalle Mura was the perfect home for our Tuscan adventure. The owners were super friendly and the house offered everything that we could need: comfy beds and clean showers, a huge, delicious spread for breakfast, bike rentals onsite, and close proximity to the old town walls, as well as a supermarket. For 50 euros a night, it provided us with a luxurious stay while not breaking our young travelers budget. Click the link below for more information on booking this B&B.

For any opera buffs out there, you’ll be happy to know that Lucca is the only city in the world that offers a live concert dedicated to Puccini every single night of the year, yes that’s 365 days of Puccini loving! Every night at San Giovanni church the concert runs approximately one hour and costs only 16 euros for students (or 20 for full price tickets).
