Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is my money going towards?
My goal is to make this trip as affordable as possible! The majority money will be going towards you! This means flights, daily transportation, hostels, food, and excursions. Any additional money will go towards the funding and planning of the trip, with 10% of profits going to a local organization.
2. Why do you donate 10% of profits to a local organization?
A lot of individuals from more developed countries chose to engage in what is often referred to as "voluntourism". This is essentially tourists working as volunteers in countries of need. Unfortunately, and I am speaking from first hand experience, volunteers do more harm than good. I worked with young orphans who have already been abandoned by their loved ones, so imagine the stress and heartbreak of short term volunteers constantly coming and going. What would benefit these children most is stability and money. I will say, however, that volunteering helps an individual to grow and find themselves, if you will. That being said, traveling alone, especially in a city so far away from home, offers the same opportunity for growth and exploration. Embarking on a tavernatravels group trip will allow you to not only travel for yourself, but the opportunity to give back to a community in need!
3. Do I have to participate in everything on the itinerary?
Absolutely not! This is your trip and you are free to do exactly as you please! However, if you chose to opt out of a meal or excursion that money will NOT be refunded to you.
4. What should I do if I have any additional questions?
Please feel free to email me at any time at email@example.com.
5. Do I need a passport/visa?
First things first, you will need a valid passport will at least 2 free pages available. The passport must be valid for at least 3 months at the time of the trip.
Thailand - you will receive your visa on arrival in Thailand for no additional cost
Cambodia - ** we will receive our visas in Cambodia at the airport. The cost is $35/person (NOT included) to be paid in US dollars. Please bring along 2 passport photos. These can be taken at CVS or Costco.
6. What if I am unsatisfied with the tour?
Your feedback is so valuable to me! My goal is to make this trip an enjoyable adventure for everyone!! Send me an email or come talk to me in person! It is important to note, however, that we will be traveling to more impoverished countries where you will not have all of the same luxuries that you have in the US.
7. Will I get a chance to meet the people in the group?
I will be hosting a happy hour event in NYC at the end of July for anyone who is already signed up, and well as anyone who is considering signing up. This will be a great opportunity to meet with other travelers, as well as to ask me any questions that you may have.
Additionally I will be creating a group message for anyone participating in the trip so that you have a place to ask general trip questions as well as a place to get to know each other!
8. Will we all be traveling together?
My goal is to book anyone traveling from NY on the same flight if possible. I, however, will already be in Asia at the time of the trip and therefore will be meeting you at the airport! You'll find me in the arrivals hall with a sign!
9. Is there a minimum age requirement?
Yes! You must be at least 18 years of age in order to participate in the group trip.
