Before we dive in, here are a few of the most popular tours in Mexico City:

Prepare for your trip to Mexico City:

Best Cafes to Eat in Mexico City

Borel

Nestled on a street corner in Roma Norte, Borel is a quiet cafe that is a must-visit on your Mexico City cafe itinerary. I recommend their iced chai and a morning bun.

Both outdoor and indoor seating is available.

SAINT

If you’re looking for one of the best bakeries in Mexico City, then SAINT needs to be on your list.

There is almost always a line, but it moves fast for takeaway. Everything is delicious, but my favorite is the ‘pain au chocolat’. It buttery, flaky, and full of chocolate. It truly rivaled many of the pastries I had in France.

Panaderia Rosetta

I read over and over again that Rosetta is one of the best bakeries in CDMX, and therefore one of the best places to eat in Mexico City in general. I don’t disagree, a visit to Panaderia Rosetta is a must while in Mexico City.

You have option to dine-in (expect a decent wait around breakfast or lunch) or join the queue for takeaway. The sit down menu is a more extensive menu with typical Mexican breakfast dishes, while the takeaway options are mostly pastries and coffee drinks.

Try to go early to avoid long lines, especially on weekends. The line was decently long when we arrived at Panaderia Rosetta at 10am, but it moved fast and we made it to the front in just 10 minutes.

Señor Croissant

Delicious warm flaky croissants? Strong, quality espresso drinks? A decent matcha latte? A beautifully aesthetic space? Señor Croissant in Condessa ticks all boxes for a great breakfast or afternoon sweet treat. Even the to-go cups are beautiful!

Constela Café

A great bustling cafe for coffee and tea drinks. This is a popular cafe in Mexico City to work from, and it offers a beautiful space to do so.

There is both indoor and outdoor seating available.

Prices are a bit high, so you’re definitely paying for the ambiance here. Plant-based milk options are available.

Churreria El Moro

Looking for a sweet treat? Churreria El Moro has locations all over CDMX, and it is definitely one of the best cafes in Mexico City! A CDMX institution since 1935, El Moro is beloved for its churros and chocolate

I like to pair my order of churros with a rich hot chocolate, or if the weather is hot, a churro sandwich. During the summer months, they have an option for a cold chocolate as well.

ODETTE CONDESA

If you eat only one pastry in Mexico City, make it the raspberry kouign Ama from ODETTE. There are multiple locations in the city, but I visited the Condesa location each time.

You order from the small shop and there are a few seats outside, but it tends to be more of a grab-and-go bakery, more than anything else. There is just about always a line so I recommend avoiding prime times.

Hule

A minimalist café-meets-art-space with a rotating selection of coffee options. Great for quiet mornings or laptop work sessions. Swing by in the evening for a cocktail or a delicious glass of natural wine.

MAQUE cafe

This popular brunch spot serves a full menu of Mexican breakfast classics, alongside fresh pastries and coffee. It’s a great place for a slow, sit-down meal on a sunny patio.

If I were you, I’d grab a full breakfast but skip the pastries, and grab something afterwards at ODETTE next door.

Kiyo Cafe

I fell in love with Kiyo Cafe in Oaxaca (easily one of the best cafes in Oaxaca), so of course I had to check out their CDMX location. It’s a small window with a selection of specialty espresso drinks and pastries.

I recommend checking out the black sesame latte for a real treat!

CUMBÉ Coffee Roasters

If you’re serious about coffee, CUMBÉ is a must. CUMBÉ is a favorite among locals and travelers alike for its exceptional coffee selection. However, for me it is their delicious pastries that had me coming back for more. Don’t miss their raspberry tart, which is just as photogenic as it is delicious.

Quentin

Quentin is a great option for coffee snobs, boasting some of the best coffee in CDMX. Many of their beans are sourced locally, making it a great choice for trying local Mexican coffee.

buna

A small coffee shop in Condessa, known for quality espresso and delicious homemade ice cream. They’re one of Mexico’s leading specialty coffee roasters and are committed to sustainable, direct-trade practices, working closely with coffee-growing communities across Mexico.

I haven’t tried any of their pastries, but its a great spot to sip a coffee and get some work done.

Pro tip: Grab a bag of their Tlaxiaco beans to go, they’re a fan favorite from Oaxaca with notes of citrus and cacao.

Pisca

A newcomer that’s quickly made a name for itself, Pisca offers excellent pour-overs, espresso-based drinks, and delicious flaky pastries (perfect for an afternoon pick-me-up). With both indoor and outdoor spaces available, it’s a great spot to catch up on work.

It feels like a hidden gem—intimate, stylish, and never too loud.

Orquídea Café

I’m adding one last cafe to the list as more of a bonus option than anything else. This is because, despite having Orquídea Café on my own list for so long, I’ve somehow never made it here. Hopefully, you get a chance to visit on your next trip to Mexico City and can let me know how it is!
