On a recent trip to Riviera Nayarit, we had the opportunity to spend two nights in this jungle oasis. If there one word to describe my time at Marii Hotel Costero it would be peaceful. There is such an amazing feeling of stillness and peace when in the space. While San Pancho is more laid back than other nearby areas, it can still be loud and busy. Stepping in Marii Hotel you are immediately removed from all of the noise, from all of the chaos. Marii Hotel is truly a slice of paradise in San Pancho.
So let’s dive in. The property is simple, yet beautifully designed. Located on Calle Pakistan, you enter the hotel off a side street of one of the busier roads, Calle Africa. When you enter the space you walk directly into the on-site cafe and restaurant, Cafe Floresta. This open-air cafe is a cafe straight out of my dreams. Designed simply, with an all light wood theme, the cafe opens to a beautiful view of the palm trees in the distance. Everything about it screams Canggu Bali vibes, for all of my other Bali fans. Not to mention, I immediately felt right at home when I saw them brewing their own homemade kombucha on the counter. (Fun fact: I picked up kombucha brewing back in 2020 and it has been a blast!)
The Rooms
To get to the rooms, you need to walk down the steps out of the cafe into what feels like a true jungle oasis. Here you’ll find a beautiful space filled with local plants. A tribute to the local animals – such as the birds, iguanas, and butterflies that often hang out on the property.
The rooms have a beautiful, minimalistic design. The whites and simple wood aesthetic pairs perfectly with all of the greens of the many plants throughout the property. There is a simple yet clear theme of birds throughout the design. Each of the rooms is named after a different bird species, and the hotel name itself actually translates to “birds of the coast” in the traditional local language.
In every room at Marii Hotel you can expect to find the following:
- Comfy, king-sized bed
- Air conditioning
- Terrace in front to hand out
- Coffee maker
- Bar shampoo and soap

There are eight rooms on the property, that surround a small pool. Six of the rooms fit two guests, with two larger suites available that fit up to four guests. Because of this you, even when all of the rooms are booked (max occupancy of 20 guests), it never feels super packed or chaotic.
The Plunge Pool at Marii Hotel
The plunge pool sits at the far end of the hotel, shared among the guest rooms. It is small, yet perfectly refreshing for a dip – especially after a long day of exploring in San Pancho. The water is inviting, cold enough to be refreshing, while not cold enough that I won’t get in. It was pleasant enough that I went for an early morning swim, before the sun had a chance to warm up the day!
Sustainability
One aspect of Marii Hotel that makes it so special is their dedication to sustainable practices. In the room you’ll find simple bar soap and bar shampoo, with no single-use plastic in sight! I personally always travel with shampoo bars rather than liquid shampoo, so I loved seeing this from a hotel!
The hotel makes a ton of their food products themselves, including their own home-brewed kombucha.
Cafe Floresta (on-site cafe at Marii Hotel)
As I mentioned above, there is a beautiful open air cafe on the property. The cafe is open daily from 8am to 3pm, and is open to the public as well. Breakfast is included in the room rate, and it is truly amazing. You have the option of coffee or tea, fresh squeezed orange juice, a bowl of homemade yogurt, mixed fresh fruit and granola, and a sweet or savory toast. My favorite was the avocado toast, that was topped with walnuts, cucumber, and the freshest avocado.
They also serve dinner on Fridays and Saturdays, which you won’t want to miss. During our stay there was a delicious artichoke pasta on the menu, along with a Birria short rib that my boyfriend ordered.
Location
The location of Marii hotel is perfect, as it can be found just beyond the center of town, up a small hill. The location makes it easy to reach all of the great restaurants and activities in San Pancho, while still being removed from any of the noises from the center of town. Despite being so close to everything, and less than a 10 minute walk to the beach, Marii Hotel truly felt like a hidden jungle oasis.
Personal Review of Marii Hotel
I would recommend any solo traveler, couple, or pair of friends to stay here in San Pancho. If you are looking for a true escape, you will find it here. The hotel is close enough to the town that you have all of the best food and activities, at your fingertips. But yet you still have this slice of jungle heaven to retreat to for some peace and quiet.
The rooms are affordable, with rooms starting around $110/night, including breakfast for two. If you have the opportunity to stay at Marii Hotel, definitely leave a comment and let me know what you think!
