The Funky Loft
The Funky Loft is an apartment in New York’s trendy Brooklyn neighborhood, Bushwick. An industrial building from the 1920s, the loft was renovated by the current host a few years ago. Marcella arrived from Los Angeles in 2017, and with her brought her excellent taste for antique decor and home interior design skills. It is the coziest apartment in NYC, and you will feel right at home the minute that you arrive.
The apartment is located in Bushwick with tons of nearby restaurants, bars, and cafes. Some personal favorites include Mally’s Deli for tacos and Swallow Cafe for a coffee or tea. Marcella has compiled a list of all of her favorite spots for guests, that you can check out when you arrive.
There are multiple subways nearby, including the M train at Central and the J train at Kosciuszko just a block away. You can also reach the Dekalb L train station only a 10 minute walk away. You can get into the Manhattan within 20-30 minutes from the apartment. The Funky Loft’s location provide travelers with an authentic New York City experience. Not to mention, it was rated the #1 coolest AirBnB rental in Brooklyn by Time Out New York.
The Funky Loft Rooms
The apartment has a total of 4 rooms, 3 that are open for guests, and 1 that is used by the host. All of the rooms share a single bathroom, equipped with wild animal wallpaper. The rooms range in size, but each is decorated to match the coziness decor of the loft. Of the 3 rooms that are available for guests, two of the rooms can accommodate up to 2 guests, while one room is designed for solo travelers. If possible, I’d recommend booking either the Room With a View or The Tropical Getaway, as these are both much larger than the The Backpackers Dream.
The living area is a shared space, which is a great place for meeting people from all over the world!
Breakfast is included, which includes options such as of oats, cereal, and toast, plus coffee/tea. There is also a communal (50s coca cola) fridge and full kitchen if you want to purchase your own food to cook.

The Decor
Every inch of the apartment is perfectly curated, boasting impeccable decor including a 1950s Coca Cola fridge, excellent lighting with plants trailing the walls, an indoor swing, and a kitschy 1970’s themed bathroom with wild animal wallpaper. I absolutely love the exposed original brick walls and hardwood floors. Many of these items were collected over time by the loft’s host, Marcella. There is a constant stream of classic tunes playing on the speaker system in the loft, creating the perfect homey atmosphere. I spent a weekend at The Funky Loft, despite living in NYC myself, and it was the perfect place to relax and get some work done. Not to mention, I took tons of awesome photos in the space, because how could I resist!
I have traveled the world, and I swear this is one of the cutest apartments that I have ever stayed at. Did I mention that she has a ridiculous amount of plants, and I’m absolutely obsessed? The loft is truly a unique, and funky, accommodation option in Brooklyn.

It is super easy to book a couple of nights at The Funky Loft. The rooms are all listed on AirBnb, where you can book for the room directly. If you’re mesmerized by the loft’s look and feel, but don’t need to book a place to stay, you can book a photoshoot instead. Photoshoots typically range from $85-125/hour, with a minimum shoot time of 3 hours.
During the shoot you will have access to the upstairs balcony suite, the main living space/kitchen and bathroom. The bedrooms, however, are typically off-limits.
