Why You Need to Visit Chefchaouen, Morocco
1. The Whole Walled City is Blue
I’m sure that you already know that the city is blue, but I for one didn’t really expect the entire walled city to be blue! Everywhere you look the shops, restaurants, walls, doors.. everything is blue. Click here for the more photos that will inspire you to visit Chefchaouen. Just one of the many reasons you need to visit Chefchaouen, Morocco.
The Food is Delicious
I’m going to be real with you, I wasn’t that into the food in Morocco. This came as a bit of a disappointment for me, because i’ve always viewed myself as a cous cous and tagine lover. There simply wasn’t enough variety (or veggies) for me. However, the food is definitely one of the reasons why you need to visit Chefchaouen, Morocco. If you have to choose only one place to eat in Chefchaouen then it is Bab Ssour hands down! We ate here two nights in a row and it was easily some of the best food that we ate throughout our time in Morocco. I recommend the chick peas – covered in a sweet, cinnamon-y sauce.
The Rooftop Views (one of the reasons why you need to visit Chefchaouen)
We booked a night at Riad Baraka in the walled city and the rooftop views were everything. We brought our breakfast to the roof each morning to take in the views with our morning cup of tea. With only a handful of rooms, the rooftop is practically private!
The Locals are the Kindest
Of all of the cities that we visited in Morocco, we found the locals to be the most welcoming in Chefchaouen. We were welcomed into their homes, large plates of cous cous cooked up for us to enjoy. The locals are just one of the many reasons why you need to visit Chefchaouen, Morocco.
The Entire City is a Giant Cat Cafe
Cat lovers, Chefchaouen, Morocco is your city! The entire city is like a giant cat cafe, with the cutest kittens wandering the streets. And this is coming from a girl who claims to not be a cat person.

Thanks lovely!!
Great post! The food photos are amazing and enough to convince me to visit, but the views from the rooftop! Wow! Did you feel safe as a female traveling in Morocco? I have heard mixed things about that.

Yes and no. You definitely need to be cautious, and you’ll be subject to a lot of stares and catcalls. That being said I never felt in danger. I felt the safest here in Chefchaouen for sure!
Great post! I was in Morocco a few years back and really wanted to visit Chefchaouen, but my travel companion didn’t want to. 🙁 I really wish I had visited back then before it became a popular tourist spot. Hopefully I get back soon and still get to experience it. It looks so beautiful!

What a shame. It is definitely a bit busier now but 100% still worth the visit if you get the chance!
I went pre-instagram days and have basically no photos here so I really want to go back!
